Taxi Refresher e-Learning Course

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

 

 

 

1.            Q :    How do I apply for the Taxi Refresher Course?

 

A :     Simply sign up on-line and send us your cheque for $53.50 made payable to  “SMRT Taxis Pte Ltd” to the following address:

         Alternatively, you may come personally to the above office to make payment by cash at our Customer Service Centre.  In this case, please bring along your identity card.

         (If you prefer to do the course in the classroom instead of by e-Learning, please register for the course at our Customer Service Centre or refer to the invitation letter and attached brochure that were sent to you by mail for more details.)

 

 

2.      Q :    My taxi driver’s vocational licence has expired.  Can I apply to do the Taxi Refresher Course?

 

         A :     Yes.

 

 

3.      Q :    My taxi driver’s vocational licence has expired.  Can I continue to drive the taxi?

 

         A :     No.  You need to have a valid vocational licence in order to drive a taxi.

 

 

4.      Q :    How much is the Taxi Refresher Course?

 

         A :     $53.50 including 7% GST.

 

 

5.      Q :    How long is the course?

 

         A :    Upon receipt of your payment, we would activate your password for a month to enable you to access the System to do the course.  You could complete the course in a day or a few days depending on your own pace of learning.  Subsequently, you need to attend a 1-hour quiz session at our Learning Centre.  Attendance for the quiz session is compulsory.

 

6.      Q :    Where do you conduct the quiz session?

 

         A :     At  SMRT Taxis Pte Ltd

7.      Q :    Is the course conducted in English or Mandarin?

 

         A :     The course is conducted in English only.

 

 

8.      Q :    What is the course outline?

 

         A :     The course covers 3 lessons.  They are:

(a)   Rules & Regulations

(b)   Defensive Driving

(c)   Major Landmarks.

 

 

9.      Q :    Is there any test conducted by STA or LTA after the course?

 

         A :    No test conducted by STA or LTA.  But, to satisfy LTA’s requirement, you will need to attend a quiz session to evident that you have gone through the e-Learning Taxi Refresher Course yourself.  The quiz questions are all multiple-choice questions.  You need to achieve at least 75% correct answers to all quiz questions.  If you have gone through the e-Learning lessons, you should not have any problem attempting the quiz.  Thereafter, you will be awarded the Certificate of Attendance.

 

 

10.    Q :    What if I fail to achieve 75% correct answers to all quiz questions on my first attempt?

 

         A :     You can do the quiz again on-the-spot or book for another date to attempt the quiz again at no additional cost.

 

 

11.    Q :    How many times can I attempt to do the quiz?

 

         A :    There is no restriction on the number of attempts but you must pass the quiz within 3 months from the date of completion of the e-Learning course.

 

 

12.    Q :    When is the quiz session?

 

         A :     A quiz session is conducted approximately once a fortnight.

 

13.    Q :    How do I renew my Taxi Driver’s Vocational Licence?

 

         A :    You need to follow the instructions stated in LTA’s letter of reminder to renew your Taxi Driver’s Vocational Licence.  That is, you need to comply with the following where appropriate:

(a)         Medical Examination

(b)         Attend Taxi Refresher Course and produce a Certificate of Attendance

(c)         Top-up your CPF Medisave account

(d)         Special fitness test for renewal up to age 73 years old.

 

 

14.    Q :    How often must I attend the Taxi Refresher Course?

 

         A :    The refresher course is due every 6 years.  With the raise of the age limit, the refresher course cycle will correspondingly extend into the ages 70 to 73 years.  Hence TDVL holders between the ages of 70 and 73 will also have to attend the course before the TDVL can be renewed.

 

 

15.    Q :    I have registered and paid for the Taxi Refresher e-Learning Course but I wish to withdraw from the course, can I have a refund of the course fee?

 

         A :    If notice of withdrawal is given in writing within 7 working days from date of on-line registration, 100% refund of course fee will be made.  Otherwise, there will be no refund of course fee paid.  There is no refund of course fee once you have commenced on the course.

 

 

16.    Q :    I have registered and paid for the Taxi Refresher e-Learning Course but I cannot do the course.  Can I defer to do the course at a later date?

 

         A :    Yes, you could.  Please inform us in writing within a month from the date of on-line registration and we will reactivate your password for a one-month period when you are ready to do the course.  Please also note that you need to complete the course before your Taxi Driver’s Vocational Licence expires if you intend to drive a taxi.

 

 

17     Q :    I have registered and paid for the Taxi Refresher Course and I did not do the course.  Can I now do the course?

 

         A :    Yes, but if you did not inform us within one month from the date of on-line registration, it will be treated as a fresh registration (that is, you need to pay again).
